Your Guide to the Perfect Reception
Every wedding at Halswell House is unique and our wedding coordinators will work with you to ensure your day is unforgettable. This guide to the perfect reception is only a loose framework which can be tailored to your exact requirements.
Welcome Drinks
Wedding receptions at Halswell House normally begin with Guest Welcome Drinks and non-alcoholic alternatives for children in The Justice Room.
Ceremony
Halswell House is licensed for both civil marriage ceremonies and civil ceremonies.
Drinks and Canapés
Whilst photographs and other wedding formalities are completed guests are invited to enjoy drinks and canapés in the Chinese Room and Ballroom.

From left to right facing the wedding table:
Best Man, Chief Bridesmaid, Groom's Father, Bride's Mother, Groom, Bride, Bride's Father, Groom's Mother, Bridesmaid, Bridesmaid.
Wedding Toasts and Speeches
Wedding speeches would normally take place at the end of the meal accompanied with Toasts - the following is the usual order of proceedings:

The bride and bridegroom cut the cake, during or after the wedding breakfast.

Toast to 'The Bride and Bridegroom', this is normally proposed by the bride's father or close relative or friend of the family.

Toast to the 'Bridesmaid's', this is always proposed by the bridegroom following his response to the first toast.

The best man would then respond to the bridegroom's speech on behalf of the bridesmaids. He would also read the telegrams to the guests.
Evening Reception
The evening reception is a popular addition to the wedding ceremony and breakfast that may appeal to both you and your guests.
Evening Buffet Menu
Your menu options for the evening buffet will be discussed with you when you plan your reception. All produce used on the Halswell estate is locally organic sourced where possible.
